Civil War Tinctures, Salves, Pills and Teas

On Saturday, October 22nd at 1:00 PM, Sylvia Britton will be presenting a demonstration and talk on Civil War herbal medicines.

Patent medicine was difficult to obtain in the south during the Civil War because of Union blockades. Both civilian and army doctors utilized herbs in many forms to treat illness and injury.

Discussion will include information on and a demonstration of the making and use of herbs in tinctures, salves, pills and teas during the Civil War period.

Admission is free.



What’s Happening At Ft. Defiance

Living History with the 3rd Kentucky
Saturday, September 12, 2015, 10 am – 5 pm
Sunday, September 13, 2015, 10 amĀ – 5 pm
The 3rd Kentucky Infantry CSA will spend two days at Fort Defiance Civil War Park providing living history demonstrations. They will be demonstrating camp life during the Civil War and conducting rifle fire demonstrations.

Sevier Days
Friday through Sunday, September 25-27, 2015
September 25-26 from 10 am – 5 pm, September 27 from 1 pm – 5 pm
A historical event with emphasis on the colonial/frontier period of Clarksville. The event will feature re-enactors and historical demonstrations.
